American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Out of the Darkness Community Walk
In the United States, a person dies by suicide every 13.7 minutes, claiming more than 41,000 lives each year. This fall, hundreds of American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's "Out of the Darkness" Community Walks will take place throughout the nation, including one in Birmingham, Alabama. People walk to raise awareness of depression and suicide, to honor loved ones, and to raise funds for research, education, and survivors of suicide support programs. This year, the 10th Annual "Out of the Darkness" Community Walk in Birmingham will take place on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Heardmont Park. Registration will open at 1:00 pm and the walk will begin at 2:30 pm. There is no registration fee. There will be a survivor area, with counselors, for walkers to post pictures of their loved ones. Complimentary refreshments will be available.
