Greater Shelby Chamber - Keeping It Real @ Kingwood Christian School
Seeking Volunteers for "Keeping It Real" Program at Kingwood Christian School
Kingwood Christian School freshman will get a perspective of what it cost to live in the adult world when the Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce brings its ShelbyOne Initiative program "Keeping it Real" to the school on September 9.
The first the students learn the difference between gross and net income and the importance of budgeting. Then the students visit 12 stations with their income worksheets to pay bills that corresponded with expenses. Volunteers are needed for the second part only -- Wednesday, September 9.
The program is co-sponsored by The UPS Store Caldwell Mill Road and Legacy Community Federal Credit Union. Keyla Handley, Community and Workforce Development Director, is seeking volunteers from 1:00PM-2:30PM on Wednesday, September 9. Volunteers will manage a station (Ex: housing, groceries, clothing, insurance, education, child care, etc.) to assist 9th grade students as they "pay bills" and make "life choices" based on a random-assigned life scenario.
If you are interested in being a volunteer for the second part, please call 663-4542 ext. 106 or email Keyla.
Volunteers would arrive at 1:00PM and the program would conclude by 2:30PM.
