Alabama Technology Network (ATN) and the Business Council of Alabama (BCA) are accepting nominations for the Alabama Manufacturer of the Year Awards. This annual celebration recognize the state's top manufacturers for their accomplishments. By applying for the award, manufacturers convey their story of financial growth, manufacturing leadership, market leadership, leadership development, and workforce enhancement. Awards are presented in three categories based on employee size and revenues.

You too can be a part of this annual celebration of manufacturing excellence. Apply for the prestigious award to:

The Alabaster Pelham Rotary Club presents A Southern Christmas Bazaar
More than 50 merchants from Alabama and surrounding states will participate in this premier shopping event. Shoppers will enjoy a wide variety of unique Christmas themed items. Merchants are offering clothing, food, collectibles, decorations and much more. Prepare to be amazed as you browse through Candy Cane Lane, Mistletoe Drive or Jingle Bell Parkway.

A Southern Christmas Bazaar is presented solely for the purpose of raising funds to benefit the projects of the Alabaster-Pelham Rotary Club. Rotarian volunteers have put together what is destined to be THE event in Shelby County for fun, shopping, decorating and celebrating.

A Southern Christmas Bazaar will be held at the Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena, Saturday, November 1, 2014 10:00am until 8:00pm and on Sunday, November 2, 2014 12:00 noon until 5:00pm.

Make your plans to attend now. Refreshments and concessions will be available. Our plans include a feature booth with Santa Claus, so bring your children to have their pictures made with Santa.

Nov 2    Out of the Darkness Walk
In the United States, a person dies by suicide every 13.7 minutes, claiming more than 38,000 lives each year. This fall, hundreds of American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's "Out of the Darkness" Community Walks will take place throughout the nation, including one in Birmingham, Alabama. People walk to raise awareness of depression and suicide, to honor loved ones, and to raise funds for research, education, and survivors of suicide support programs. This year, the 9th Annual "Out of the Darkness" Community Walk in Birmingham will take place on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Heardmont Park. Registration will open at 1:00 p.m., and the walk will begin at 2:30 p.m. There is no registration fee. There will be a survivor area, with counselors, for walkers to post pictures of their loved ones. Complimentary refreshments will be available.

Nov 4    Greater Shelby Chamber - Quarterly Industry Tour at Stone Hollow Farmstead
Greater Shelby Chamber Quarterly Industry Tour to be Held at Stone Hollow Farmstead

The Greater Shelby Chamber's Existing Business and Industry Work Group will host its fourth Quarterly Industry Tour sponsored by Barge, Waggoner, Sumner & Cannon on Tuesday, November 4 at Stone Hollow Farmstead.

The guided tour will begin at the chicken coup where attendees will see heritage bred hens, turkeys, and ducks. Guests will be able to gather eggs at this point. Then the tour will lead to the milk parlor where the goats are milked daily. Lastly, guests will visit the gardens with a cheese tasting and then enjoy lunch.

Lunch is $12 per person for Greater Shelby Chamber members and $20 for "Future members" and will need to be paid for in advance. Nov 5    Casino for a Cause
The Alabama/NW Florida Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation (CCFA) is proud to present the 4th Annual Casino for a Cause at Regions Field on Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Proceeds from Casino for Cause will support CCFA mission critical research initiatives, education programs, Camp Oasis and additional support services for Alabamians living with Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis. General admission to Casino for a Cause includes heavy hors d'oeuvres, drinks, silent auction, music and a great prizes. Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are painful illnesses that attack the digestive system. Symptoms may include persistent pain, fever and weight loss, and many patients require hospitalization and surgery. Approximately 1.4 million American adults and children suffer from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis; most develop symptoms between the ages of 15 and 35. To date, there is no known cure. Calling all Sporting Clay enthusiasts, beginners & experts, to test your skills on the Five Star Range course at Selwood Farm!  The 14 station course is designed for pleasure and enjoyment in the great outdoors.

Selwood Farm is designated as a FIVE STAR RANGE. "Selwood Farm, in Alpine, Ala., received the prestigious Five Star rating from the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2013. A Five Star Rating reflects a range's excellence in all aspects of management and operations-appearance, management, customer service, amenities, customer development and community relations."

We are gearing up for an awesome tournament!  Thank you in advance to our teams and sponsors for participating in the Chamber's 5th Annual Sporting Clay Shoot!

Below are the "need to know" details to prepare for the tournament:

What do I need?
A double barrel or semi-automatic shotgun
5 to 6 boxes of shells
Eye and ear protection

Things to Note:

Rental guns: Limited guns are available for rent. If you need to reserve a gun, please contact Selwood Farm prior to tournament date.

Shells: Approximately 5 to 6 boxes are recommended for the shoot.  You may bring your own or you can purchase 12 or 20 gauge from the shop.

Eye & Ear Protection: Participants must wear ear plugs and protective eye wear.  Earplugs are available for $.50 each, and safety glasses are available for a loaner fee of $5.00 (fee is refundable upon return of glasses).

Golf Carts are provided for each team.

Entry Fee Includes: Course and cart fee, breakfast before round/ lunch after round.

Shooters are invited to participate in the following fundraising contest available for purchase @ registration:

Cotton Drop Contest: $10 each for 3 chances (limit 2 per shooter)
For $10 the shooter can buy the opportunity to win ½ the cotton drop pot.
To play, each target will have a cotton ball glued to the target.  There will be a circle marked on the ground.  If you hit a Cotton Drop target and the cotton ball falls within the circle, your name goes in the pot for a drawing.

Shoot Starts @ 9:00 AM
A safety talk will be given 15 minutes prior to tournament start.
Awards Ceremony should begin around noon which includes lunch.

1st & 2nd Place Prizes will be awarded, as well as various door prizes drawn.

*PLEASE NOTE: The Greater Shelby Chamber pays a per target fee to Selwood Farm.  Our tournament will be a 14 Station course with 100 targets per player.  We ask that each player stay within the allotted range, as any overages to this amount are billed to the Chamber by Selwood Farm.

This is a benefit dance for a new home for Noah Galloway, an Alabaster veteran that lost his legs and an arm during the recent conflict in the middle East. This dance is a salute to all veterans. Veterans are encouraged to wear their uniforms or medals.

Greater Shelby Chamber's 17th Annual Prayer Breakfast Scheduled for November 25

The Greater Shelby Chamber will host its 17th Annual Prayer Breakfast on November 25.  The program, co-sponsored by The Jimmie Hale Mission, Legacy Community Federal Credit Union and Shelby Baptist Medical Center, will feature a presentation by Tony Cooper, Executive Director with The Jimmie Hale Mission.  Cooper, who is marking his 25th anniversary with the Mission, will share a presentation on “Steps to Success”.  

“This program allows the entire Shelby County community to come together for fellowship and to celebrate and give thanks for our many blessings,” Chamber President & CEO Kirk Mancer commented. “It’s also a time to reflect on what’s truly important in life and what inspires us to make a difference in the lives of others.” Mancer continued.  “We’re honored that Tony Cooper, who has dedicated his life to helping people in need, will be joining us and sharing his message in Shelby County.
