Dr. Molly Wasko is an Associate Professor and Chair for the Management, Information Systems and Quantitative Methods Department in the Collat School of Business at UAB.  She holds a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from the University of Maryland, College Park, an MBA from Averett University, and a BBA from James Madison University.

Zumba is a fitness program that involves both dance and aerobic elements that draws its choreography from hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue, mambo and martial arts. This class will run for a six week period every Saturday. The library suggests that participants wear comfortable, loose clothes along with gym shoes. Space is very limited, so register early! Whether one is trying to take pictures to display on a web site, frame and hang as fine art, or just capture family or vacation memories; today's digital cameras - Digital Compact or Digital SLR - are packed with capabilities and features that greatly enhance and extend the users' ability to capture and create images that fill a wide range of needs The class will consist of one 3 hour session covering: Camera types and there advantages and disadvantages Camera standard operational modes Special features and effects. This class is designed for those who have just gotten their first digital camera, or for those who have had one for a while but never really felt comfortable shooting in any mode other than full auto - point and shoot. Seeking Volunteers for "Keeping It Real" Program at Oak Mountain High School

Shelby County High School freshman will get a perspective of what it cost to live in the adult world when the Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce brings its ShelbyOne Initiative program "Keeping it Real" to the
school on April 9 and 10.

The first day students learn the difference between gross and net income and the importance of budgeting.

The second day students visit 12 stations with their income worksheets to pay bills that corresponded with expenses. Volunteers are needed on the second day only.

The program is co-sponsored by The UPS Store Caldwell Mill Road and Legacy Community Federal Credit Union.

Keyla Handley, Community and Workforce Development Director, is seeking volunteers to assist students with their budgets at the stations (housing, transportation, groceries, etc.) on Thursday, April 10.

If you are interested in being a volunteer for a few hours or the day, please call 663-4542 or email Keyla.


Volunteers would arrive at Oak Mountain High School as early as 7:30AM and the program would conclude by 3:00PM. Lunch is provided for all volunteers.

Have you finished your taxes? Now clean out your files! Gain peace of mind by knowing that your important documents will not end up in the wrong hands. Protect yourself from identity theft. This free event held at Pelham Library will provide city residents with a safe and secure resource to shred their confidential personal and business documents. During the event, anyone can bring their documents in and have them shredded by an on-site, certified Cintas employee. From drop-off to destruction, all documents will be constantly monitored and protected. No reservation required. There is a six box limit per individual. No CD's/DVDs. Apr 26    Zumba!
On Saturdays beginning April 5th and running through May 10th, the Pelham Public Library will be offering an introduction to Zumba from 8:30 to 9:30 am. Zumba is a fitness program that involves both dance and aerobic elements that draws its choreography from hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue, mambo and martial arts. This class will run for a six week period every Saturday. The library suggests that participants wear comfortable, loose clothes along with gym shoes. Space is very limited, so register early! The $30 fee covers all six week sessions. Payment is required upon registration. Ages 18-up. Call the library at 620-6418 for more information.

Apr 27    Danny Brooks - Miracles for Breakfast
Danny Brooks 'Texassippi Soul Man', now settled in Llano Texas has mixed the best of both Texas and Mississippi and calls it 'Texassippi'.

In Danny’s music you’ll hear about his soulful personal journey of conquering addictions and getting his life back on the right track. You will also hear some good ol’ foot stompin’ blues and gospel music, both original and classic. In our show Danny will have time to talk about his book, his song writing and his life experience…of course there will be plenty of music.

Regional favorites “2BLU” will warm up the stage for Danny with an acoustic duo set, be sure to get there early. Doors open at 2 pm. 2BLU starts at 2:30 pm.

Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce’s 2013-2014 Student & Educator of the Year to be Recognized at April Membership Luncheon

The Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the creation of its Educator of the Year recognition program.  Educators play a vital role in the lives of Shelby County children, impact our communities every day and help develop the workforce which our Shelby County businesses and organizations will need in the years ahead.  As such, the Chamber is launching this recognition program to celebrate excellence in the teaching profession and inform our community of the exceptional quality of instruction delivered throughout Shelby County. All nominees will be recognized and two recipients (elementary and secondary educator) will receive a one-time financial investment to assist their continuing development.

Also, the Chamber is pleased to announce the creation of its Student of the Year recognition program.  Shelby County students are our potential business and community leaders and will comprise a significant portion of our workforce in the future.  As such, the Chamber is launching this recognition program to celebrate student excellence in the classroom throughout Shelby County. All nominees will be recognized and two recipients (college track and career track student) will receive a one-time financial investment to assist their continuing development.

The Chamber will recognize all of nominations and announce the recipients at the April 30 membership luncheon which is sponsored by America's First Federal Credit Union.
