The Chamber's Existing Business & Industry Work Group is holding its first Quarterly Industry Tour, presented in 2017 by Barge, Waggoner, Sumner & Cannon, Inc., from 10:00AM until 12:00PM on February 2 at Vulcan Information Packaging in Vincent.

Vulcan Information Packaging and American Thermoplastic Company is an EBSCO Industries Company. For more than 70 years they have been premier manufacturers in the information packaging industry. Their products include: Custom Loose-leaf Binders, Totes and File Boxes, Sample Swatch Binders, Promotional Products, Pad Holders, Index Tab Dividers, Private Label, Custom Boxes, Marketing/Sample Kits, Pocket Folders and Fulfillment Services.

Participants will meet on site at 1 Loose Leaf Lane, Vincent, AL 35178. It is requested that all participants wear closed-toed shoes during the tour.

On February 7, the Chamber’s Go & Grow Workshop -- presented by Business Telephones, Inc. and co-sponsored by FocalPoint Coaching -- will be an interactive program featuring Joe Meads of Sain Associates. Joe will be on hand to share the business lessons he has learned as well as the philosophy he has developed on his journey towards success. 

Go & Grow "Leadership Lessons Learned" featuring Joe Meads, Sain AssociatesJoe Meads is co-owner of Sain Associates one of the largest Engineering firms in the Birmingham area. He has more than 30 years' experience as a civil engineer and is a registered Professional Engineer in multiple southeast states. Joe is Principal-In-Charge of many of Sain's municipal, government, and industrial/economic development projects. Joe's primary role is to lead the company's Business Development efforts, a position he has held since 1998. 

The Go & Grow Workshop, facilitated by the Chamber’s Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Michael Smith of The Great, The Good and The Gone, will be from 11:30AM-2:00PM at the Chamber. There is no cost to attend, but lunch is available for $10 per person for Chamber investors ($20 for “Future” investors).

Seeking Volunteers for "Keeping It Real" Program at Pelham High School

Pelham High School freshman will get a perspective of what it cost to live in the adult world when the Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce brings its ShelbyOne Initiative program "Keeping it Real" to the school on February 9th and 10th.

The first day students learn the difference between gross and net income and the importance of budgeting. (No volunteers needed on day one.)

The second day students visit 12 stations with their income worksheets to pay bills that corresponded with expenses. (Volunteers are needed on the second day only.)

The program is co-sponsored by The UPS Store Caldwell Mill Road and Central State Bank.

Keyla Handley, Director of Community & Investor Development, is seeking volunteers on Friday, February 10th. Volunteers will manage a station (Ex: housing, groceries, clothing, insurance, education, child care, etc.) to assist 9th grade students as they "pay bills" and make "life choices" based on a random-assigned life scenario.

If you are interested in being a volunteer for a few hours or the day, please register now or call 663-4542 or email Keyla.

Volunteers would arrive at Pelham High School as early as 7:30AM and the program would conclude by 3:00PM. Lunch is provided for all volunteers.

Seeking Volunteers for "Keeping It Real" Program at Vincent High School

Vincent High School freshman will get a perspective of what it cost to live in the adult world when the Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce brings its ShelbyOne Initiative program "Keeping it Real" to the school on February 23th and 24th.

The first day students learn the difference between gross and net income and the importance of budgeting. (No volunteers needed on day one.)

The second day students visit 12 stations with their income worksheets to pay bills that corresponded with expenses. (Volunteers are needed on the second day only.)

The program is co-sponsored by The UPS Store Caldwell Mill Road and Central State Bank.

Keyla Handley, Director of Community & Investor Development, is seeking volunteers on February 24th. Volunteers will manage a station (Ex: housing, groceries, clothing, insurance, education, child care, etc.) to assist 9th grade students as they "pay bills" and make "life choices" based on a random-assigned life scenario.

Sylacauga Community Playhouse will bring the familiar characters of the “Peanuts” gang to life on stage in an exciting new production You’re A Good Man, Charlie Man, a musical written by Clark Gesner and based on the comic strip “Peanuts” by Charles M. Schulz. Spend a couple of days in the lives of Charlie Brown and his pint-sized philosopher friends – from bright, uncertain morning to starlit, hopeful evening – and all the lonely brown-bag lunches, kite flying failures, book reports, glee club rehearsals, and suppertimes in between. Audiences of all ages will learn the “Happiness is” the simple joys of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

As part of Hockey Across America, the Pelham Youth Hockey League in conjunction with USA Hockey is excited to announce that they will be hosting Try Hockey For Free Day at the Pelham Civic Complex Ice Arena on Saturday, February 25th, 2017, 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm.. The event will begin with an introduction to hockey, followed by a one hour on ice session. The Try Hockey For Free Clinic is designed for children to experience ice hockey for the first time and learn the basics of the sport in a fun, safe environment, as taught and coached by many of the qualified and certified coaches who volunteer with our hockey program. Opportunities to allow children to become involved with Youth Hockey in a cost effective way continue to grow across the country. Information on Pelham’s Learn to Play Hockey Program will also be available in the coming days.
