About Us

With an extensive collection of artifacts dating back to the Indian era, the Shelby County Museums & Archives offers visitors a glimpse into the past of what is now one of the fastest growing counties in Alabama. The museum also boasts a highly respected archive where visitors can spend time in the library researching their family lineage. Located in Columbiana, the county seat, visitors can tour the beautiful two story building that was built in 1854 as the original courthouse. The two-story Jeffersonian style building was designated as a historic landmark in 1974 by the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on the second Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no charge for admission. Tour groups are welcome. Feel free to call Jennifer at 205-669-3912 for more information or to arrange a visit
