About Us
Animal-Angels Foundation is a prevention-first 501(c)(3) serving seven Central Alabama counties including Shelby. AAF keeps pets and families together by changing the reasons surrender happens in the first place.
Six programs run across the region: SNIP for spay/neuter access, The Bridge for crisis stabilization, Foster-to-Train, Adoption Boost for post-adoption support, Sniff and Greet for adoption matching, and a toll-free Pet Help Desk that catches families before they reach the shelter lobby.
The Animal Welfare Resource Network coordinates partner organizations across veterinary clinics, rescues, shelters, trainers, groomers, social workers, and landlords so families get the right help from the right partner in real time. Shelby County partners are actively being onboarded.
AAF was founded by BJ Adkins, a disabled veteran and author of The Shift to Prevention. The book heads to publication this summer with an introduction by Dr. Sara Pizano of Team Shelter USA. AAF earned IRS 501(c)(3) approval in March 2026, holds Candid Platinum transparency certification, is a Best Friends Network Partner, and is recognized in Marquis Who's Who in America.
Most pet surrender begins before the shelter. Families are out of options, not out of love. AAF builds the prevention infrastructure that catches them earlier.
We do not compete. We connect.
