The Shelby Chamber - Keeping It Real @ Calera High School
Seeking Volunteers for "Keeping It Real" Program at Calera High School.
Calera High School freshman will get a perspective of what it cost to live in the adult world when The Shelby County Chamber brings its ShelbyOne Initiative program "Keeping it Real" to the school on November 14th and 15th.
The first day students learn the difference between gross and net income and the importance of budgeting.
The second day students visit 12 stations with their income worksheets to pay bills that corresponded with expenses. Volunteers are needed on the second day only.
The program is sponsored by Thompson Tractor and co-sponsored by American's First Federal Credit Union, The UPS Store Caldwell Mill Road, and AT&T.
Pari Barzegari, Community and Career Development Manager, is seeking volunteers for Friday, November 15th. Volunteers will manage a station (Ex: housing, groceries, clothing, insurance, education, child care, etc.) to assist 9th grade students as they "pay bills" and make "life choices" based on a random-assigned life scenario.
If you are interested in being a volunteer the day, or half day please register now or call 205-419-3357 email pari@shelbychamber.org.
Volunteers would arrive at Calera High School at 7:30AM and the program would conclude by 3:00PM. Lunch is provided for volunteers.
