The Shelby Chamber - Keeping It Real @ Pelham High School
Seeking Volunteers for "Keeping It Real" Program at Pelham High School
Pelham High School freshman will get a perspective of what it cost to live in the adult world when the The Shelby County Chamber brings its ShelbyOne Next Level Up Initiative program "Keeping it Real" to the school on February 15.
The first day students learn the difference between gross and net income and the importance of budgeting. (No volunteers needed on day one.)
The second day students visit 12 stations with their income worksheets to pay bills that corresponded with expenses. (Volunteers are needed on the second day only.)
The program is presented by Thompson Tractor and co-sponsored by America's First Federal Credit Union, AT&T and The UPS Store Caldwell Mill Road.
Kirk Mancer, President & CEO, is seeking volunteers on February 15. Volunteers will manage a station (Ex: housing, groceries, clothing, insurance, education, child care, etc.) to assist 9th grade students as they "pay bills" and make "life choices" based on a random-assigned life scenario.
If you are interested in being a volunteer for a few hours or the day, please register now or call 663-4542 or email Kirk.
Volunteers would arrive at Pelham High School as early as 7:30AM and the program would conclude by 3:00PM. Lunch is provided for all volunteers.
