The Shelby Chamber - Keeping It Real @ Thompson High School
Seeking Volunteers for "Keeping It Real" Program at Thompson High School
Thompson High School freshman will get a perspective of what it cost to live in the adult world when The Shelby County Chamber brings its ShelbyOne Initiative program "Keeping it Real" to the school on January 23rd and 24th.
The first day students learn the difference between gross and net income and the importance of budgeting. (No volunteers needed on day one.)
The second day students visit 12 stations with their income worksheets to pay bills that corresponded with expenses. (Volunteers are needed on the second day only.)
The program is sponsored by Thompson Tractor and co-sponsored by The UPS Store Caldwell Mill Road, AT&T and America's First Financial Credit Union.
Pari Barzegari, Manager of Community & Career Development, is seeking volunteers on January 24th. Volunteers will manage a station (Ex: housing, groceries, clothing, insurance, education, child care, etc.) to assist 9th grade students as they "pay bills" and make "life choices" based on a random-assigned life scenario.
If you are interested in being a volunteer for a few hours or the day, please register now or call 663-4542 or email pari@shelbychamber.org
Volunteers would arrive at Thompson High School as early as 7:30AM and the program would conclude by 3:00PM. Lunch is provided for all volunteers.
