The Shelby County Chamber's "7th Annual Small Business Awards" Community Luncheon
The Chamber’s Small Business Work Group will host the Wednesday, May 22 Community Luncheon to celebrate the positive economic impact small business has on Shelby County. Nominees for the Shelby County 2019 Small Business of the Year in five categories will be recognized and the recipients in each category will be announced.
The purpose of the "Small Business Awards" program is to support Shelby County small businesses by recognizing successful companies and spotlight the businesses that play a vital role in building our Shelby County communities and overall economy.
The five categories for 2019 are:
Small Business of the Year-Category I: 1-5 Employees, Open 1 Year or More
Small Business of the Year-Category II: 6-10 Employees, Open 1 Year or More
Small Business of the Year-Category III: 11-20 Employees, Open 1 Year or More
Small Business of the Year-Category IV: 21+ Employees, Open 1 Year or More
New Small Business of the Year-Category V: Less Than 25 Employees, Open Less Than 1 Year
The event will also feature comments from Drew Ann Long. Drew Ann designed the first ever patented special needs grocery cart for children and adults with disabilities, named Caroline’s Cart.
She has changed the retail industry by addressing the lack of accessibility and inclusion in the retail world. Today, because of Caroline’s Cart, millions of families across the US and abroad can have an equal opportunity shopping experience. Caroline’s Cart has been awarded the 2013 International daVinci Award for Best Product in Mobility and Drew Ann Long was named to “THE LIST 2017” by the National Retail Foundation of People Shaping Retail’s Future.
Drew Ann has published a book, Game Changer, the Remarkable story of Caroline’s Cart, started a non-profit, and daily furthers her mission of raising awareness for accessibility, inclusion, and innovation in today’s world.
Reservations are requested as seating is limited. Reservations will be taken until noon on Monday, May 20 or until sold out. Call the Chamber at 663-4542 or register online.
*NOTE: The luncheon is one week earlier than usual due to the Memorial Day Holiday.
