2011 Alabama Disability Summit and Expo
On Thursday, September 8, 2011 the Governor's Office on Disability in partnership with the Birmingham Mayor's Office on Americans with Disabilities will celebrate a new milestone in the disability advocacy movement in the State of Alabama by hosting the 2011 Alabama Disability Summit and Expo at Fair Park Arena, 2331 Bessemer Road in Birmingham, AL. The program will last from 10 AM until 4:15 PM, with registration starting at 8:45 AM. Lunch may be purchased onsite.
The 2011 Alabama Disability Summit and Expo will showcase a variety of speakers and panels addressing the latest information on disability issues. It is intended for persons with disabilities, families, caregivers, teachers, churches, organizations, and community professionals. All those connected to the disability community are encouraged to attend, and pre-registration is highly suggested. To register, please visit www.ilrgb.org.
Highlights of the event include a State of the State Disability presentation by Graham Sisson, Exectutive Director of Alabama's GOOD office, as well as a panel discussion featuring leaders from a wide range of disability-related agencies in Alabama. There will be workshops on the latest information on emergency preparedness, Americans with Disability Act, assistive technology, and tips on creating effective advocacy. The exhibition area will allow attendees to gain additional information on assistive technology and disability resources.
Collaboration partners are Independent Living Resources of Greater Birmingham, Inc., Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, Alabama Disability Advocacy Network, Center for Disability Research, Service-Auburn University, and many others.
