Blue Ribbon Tree for Child Abuse Prevention Month
Create Awareness for Child Prevention Month - Create a Blue Ribbon Tree by April 7th
One of the focus areas of the Shelby County Children’s Policy Council is the strengthening of families so that they can become strong and stable. The Shelby County Children’s Policy Council is joining the Alabama Dept. of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention (Children’s Trust Fund) in promoting awareness of child abuse prevention and is challenging everyone to join us in bringing awareness to Child Abuse Prevention month in April by displaying a tree (bought, live, old Christmas tree, constructed…use your imagination) filled with blue ribbons (here again use your imagination) to honor children in some way.
You need to have your tree displayed by April 7th and leave it up for the month of April with a sign saying “Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month” and who you are honoring; i.e. “These ribbons represent the number of children who attend Shelby County schools”, “who are in foster care”, who are the children and grandchildren of our employees”, who have survived abuse and neglect”, “whose families have been effected by substance abuse”, “who are graduating this year” , etc.
Try to make it a positive statement. Awareness of the child abuse and neglect issues in our county is very important to help with abuse and neglect prevention. Please try and help us get the word out by participating in this important event. It takes a community to tackle some of these tough issues.
