What is there to do for recreation in Shelby County, Alabama? That would depend on each visitor’s definition of recreation. To start the process of answering this question (along with many more) the Chamber’s Tourism and Recreation Work Group is hosting a Workshop, hosted by Holiday Inn & Express in Pelham from 11:00AM - 12:30PM on March 22.

The goal is to highlight points of interest, historical locations, theme parks, museums, themed itineraries, nature and outdoors. The Work Group plans to generate/ create a PowerPoint that may be distributed to hotels to use in training their front-line employees to assist customers seeking information about tourism and recreation.

Who should attend this workshop? We are encouraging Regional Managers, General Managers, Director of Sales and Owners of area Hotels since they are the "need to know" entities for our visitors.

Shelby County attractions should attend to inform of their offerings. The Primary Contact or Marketing/ Sales Director for: wineries, ice rinks, bowling lane owners/ managers ... any attraction that information should be captured and placed in the hands of our visitors that would make their experience and stay easier and more enjoyable. Each Tourism & Recreation entity will have the ability to share literature with the other attendees.

There is no cost to attend however reservations are requested by noon on Monday, March 19 to assist in preparation. Lunch will be served to all attendees. There is limited seating so early reservations are encouraged.
