Liberty Day Gallery Exhibit Featuring- Scott Owen
SCAC Gallery opens at the open of Liberty Day Clarke Stackhouse The Shelby County Arts Council welcomes local artist Scott Owens as the new artist to exhibit his work at the SCAC gallery in Columbiana on Friday, June 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the beginning of Liberty Day celebrations. Bruce Andrews, member of the SCAC, said Liberty Day is a huge event for Columbiana and that the new gallery opening will coincide with different opening night festivities allowing for a wide range of entertainment. Scott Owens, the highlighted artist, said the exhibition will be a mixture of sculpture and painting and incorporate works from different parts of his life. Owens, who has spent his career and the majority of his adult life as a graphic designer and sign maker said he's excited to showcase his material away from the world. He said it was an opportunity to "just be an artist." Owens describes his art as abstract and expressionistic, he said he uses a lot of geometric shapes and high contrast colors. Owens said most of the pieces will be a larger scale, and he is working on a few new pieces for the exhibit. "If I'm trying to make statement," Owens said, "I'm saying, By the way I'm an artist." Andrews said that visitors to the opening will have an opportunity to meet and talk with Owens and hear live music by the Chuck King Jazz Trio. The music will help the gallery opening tie into Music on Main Street, a Liberty Day kickoff tradition. "It's a perfect night out," Andrews said. "Have a glass of wine, have some good food, enjoy live music, and great art." For more information on the SCAC and their past and upcoming gallery exhibits by visiting shelbycountyartscouncil.com.
