Shelby County Election Forum ~ Jefferson State Shelby Campus ~ May 19th
Shelby County voters will get the chance to familiarize themselves with candidates in the upcoming local elections at an event sponsored by four chambers of commerce and the county’s longstanding community newspaper. The Shelby County Election Forum will be held May 19th at 6:30 p.m. at Jefferson State Community College’s Shelby Campus.
“As a Chamber, we support all efforts to introduce leaders as well as important issues to the citizens of Shelby County,” said Chamber President Jennifer Trammell. “This election forum is your opportunity to learn about the candidates and listen as they address various issues that are important to our community. We encourage all citizens to become informed about the candidates and to let your voice be heard.”
Each qualifying candidate for the June Primary has been invited to the forum. The event will begin with a two-minute self-introduction from each candidate leading to a question-and-answer round.
Candidates will be given one minute to respond to each of two questions drawn randomly by the forum moderator. Following the question-and-answer period, each candidate will be given two minutes for closing remarks. “Making an informed decision in the voting booth takes careful study of the candidates and the issues facing our community,” said Tim Prince, editor, publisher and president of the Shelby County Reporter. “Our hope is that the forum will provide an excellent opportunity for voters to gain a strong understanding of the important issues in the race and how each candidate would approach them.”
