The Shelby Chamber - Keeping It Real @ Oak Mountain High School
Seeking Volunteers for our "Keeping It Real" Program at Oak Mountain High School.
Oak Mountain High School freshman will get a perspective of what it cost to live in the adult world when The Shelby County Chamber brings its ShelbyOne Initiative program "Keeping it Real" to the school on Thursday, October 24, 2019.
The first day students learn the difference between gross and net income and the importance of budgeting.
The second day students visit 12 stations with their income worksheets to pay bills that corresponded with expenses. Volunteers are needed on the second day only.
The program is presented by Thompson Tractor and co-sponsored by America's First Federal Credit Union, AT&T and The UPS Store Caldwell Mill Road.
Pari Barzegari, Manager of Community and Career Development, is seeking volunteers for Thursday,October 24. Volunteers will manage a station (Ex: housing, groceries, clothing, insurance, education, child care, etc.) to assist 9th grade students as they "pay bills" and make "life choices" based on a random-assigned life scenario.

Volunteers would arrive at Oak Mountain High School as early as 7:30AM and the program would conclude by 3:00PM. The Chamber will provide lunch for volunteers.
