Calera High School Named CLAS Banner School -- 3/14/2012
Calera High School is one of 10 schools in Alabama to be named as Banner School by the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS). The award recognizes schools or programs that serve as outstanding educational models for other schools in Alabama.
The CLAS Banner School program was created in 2001 to recognize schools in Alabama that showcase outstanding programs and service to students. This year, 142 schools or programs were nominated for the prestigious award, but only 10 were selected. In addition to Calera High School the other schools were, Butler County Bright Beginnings Pre-K, Cullman Middle School, Engineering Academy of Austin and Decatur High Schools, Piedmont Elementary School, Piney Chapel Elementary School, Priceville Elementary School, Rockwell Elementary School, Sequoyah School, and Winterboro School. The ten schools/programs will be recognized at a luncheon on April 24 in Montgomery.
“On our application we highlighted the service learning activities of our clubs, our outreach to different levels of students through the advisory period, My Future Project, A+ College Ready program and the accomplishments of our BUV team - including their work with the development of a prosthetic leg,” said Calera Principal Richard Bishop. “This is a tribute to the hard work of our faculty and their dedication to our students.”
“Through the collaborative efforts of Mr. Richard Bishop, his leadership team, faculty and staff, Calera High School as emerged as one of the innovative leaders in Shelby County, as well as the state of Alabama,” said Superintendent Randy Fuller.
