Greater Shelby Chamber ~ Membership Luncheon Featuring Brian Hilson, BBA

Event Sponsors

Sirote & Permutt, PC

Join us for the May membership luncheon as we welcome keynote speaker, Brian Hilson, President and CEO of the birminghambusinessalliance (BBA).  About BBA:  Public & Private Leadership:  The BBA expects and supports capable leaders who govern and manage responsibly thereby earning our residents’ trust. In addition, we will aggressively develop the next generation of leaders who are capable, visionary, and ethical.

* Brian Hilson recently traveled to New York with a group of six economic development heads from different cities. He left with a mission to boost Birmingham's name recognition in the economic development world.

On the trip, Hilson, the new president of the Birmingham Business Alliance, and the other economic development officials met with a dozen site selection consultants with major national clients.

When he asked each consultant about Birmingham, he found the group didn’t know much about the city.

“Birmingham was not on their list,” he said on Monday, as he addressed a state chapter meeting of NAIOP, a commercial real estate development association. “We are a lagger compared to other lists. We haven’t pushed the envelope enough, but we can do that pretty easily.”

To correct that, Hilson said he’s preparing to hire a marketing firm out of New York – the same one he worked with previously as the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County – to launch efforts to package Birmingham and its attributes and get the city in front of the right people around the country.

“We intend to win more (economic development projects) than our share,” he said.
