To provide the residents of North Shelby County with a “best of the fest” preview of what Time magazine called “One of the Top Ten Film Festivals for the Rest of Us” and MovieMaker magazine named “One of the Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals”
 
The Sidewalk Film Festival was founded in 1999 by a small group of independent film lovers, including Kelli and Wayne Franklin, Shelby County residents, and is now managed by Chloe Collins, also a Shelby County resident. The Sidewalk Film Festival is an annual celebration of new independent cinema showcased in downtown Birmingham. Since its debut, filmmakers from around the world have come to Birmingham to screen their work at Sidewalk and have been thrilled to discover enthusiastic audiences. The 14^th annual Sidewalk Film Festival will take place August 24-26 and will include over 200 film screenings, with close to 100 question and answer sessions with participating filmmakers and will offer eight filmmaker or industry panels, one Continuing Legal Education (CLE) event and a variety of social events all in historic downtown Birmingham. Sidewalk offers a little something for everyone, with a FREE Family Film Festival in the McWane Center's Rushton Theater, FREE live music on the outdoor stage in Sidewalk Central, and of course films!
